From 2009 to 2022, extensive conservation and restoration work was carried out in two stages on the San Gaudenzio church and hospice ruins. The conservation and restoration work were made possible thanks to contributions from the Bregaglia municipality, the Maloja Region, the canton of Graubunden, as well as foundations and individuals.
First Stage: 2005–2014
- Preparatory work: Documentation of the current situation (actual state), analysis of the building structure, material analyses
- Preservation work on the hospice
- Conservation and restoration work on masonry and plaster
- Conservation measures on the facade
- Securing the windows and columns
- Protection measures for the top of the wall
Second Stage: 2018–2022
- Conservation and restoration work on the choir
- Leveling of the church floor to the original height
- Replacing the service infrastructure, and work on the surroundings
- Signage and interpretive panels
- New website concept
